HIGH FACIAL COLOUR

Nowadays one of the greater preoccupations is with the dermatological condition that produces high facial colour or Cuperosis. This aesthetic problem of the face and décolleté is due to an alteration in the peripheral circulation that continually dilates the little veins and arteries of the skin making them visible on the surface and over emphasising the normal colour.

FAQs
The information that we have put in this website is of a general nature and is not intended for the individual. You need to understand that any treatment will only be offered after a full and informed consultation with your specialist plastic surgeon.  If you do not understand anything please contact Clinica Foguet.

What causes the high colouring?
There exist many factors in relationship to the dilation of the vessels. Much of the time it is caused by a well known dermatological problem called Rosacea but it can also be a hereditary problem. Some medications can make it worst as can hormones, sun exposure and the aging process. Nowadays it is actually considered one of the significant signs of photo aging.

Are capillaries and spider veins the same thing?
Yes normally they are called in this way because when they are magnified they are seen as fine filaments that radiate outwards like a spider. In general they are red in colour although some vessel could be blue.

In what areas does it appear?
It is more frequently seen in the nasal area, on the tip of the nose and around the sides of the nostrils. Also it can occur on the cheeks and jowls and may extend down through the chin, neck and décolleté.

Does it appear in all skin types?
It is much more frequent on fine, sensitive and very pale skin where the epidermis is almost transparent.

How do you actually treat it?
The ultimate treatment for Cuperosis consists of applying the IPL (Intense Pulse Light) laser over the vessels. Energy is absorbed by the pigment that exists in the blood producing selective thermo coagulation of the vessels without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Is this an advanced type of treatment?
Yes the introduction of the laser has allowed a very important change in the treatment of Cuperosis. The results are excellent compared with conventional techniques.

When must we start to treat it?
It is important that people who suffer with this problem start to treat it as soon as possible without waiting to have a lot of visible vessels in order to limit the progress of the high colour.

Are we able to prevent this problem?
Yes overall we work with the factors or stimuli that start the process such as moderating sun exposure and using adequate sun-blockers.

What do you do in this treatment?
We make them in sessions and exclusively over the area where we find the capillaries.

How long does a session last?
It last just a few minutes.

How many sessions are necessary?
It may be necessary to make one or a few sessions to eliminate the Cuperosis depending on each case.

Is it painful and what will I feel during the treatment?
With each pulse or emission of light you may notice a light prick or bite and it is not necessary for a local anaesthetic as the majority of people tolerate the treatment well.

Are there any side-effects?
Normally there could appear a light reddening or swelling of the area treated that disappears in a few days. Also some vessels can present a transitory darkening and with the tracks more visible, a sign of their destruction. Occasionally the skin darkens or lightens after the treatment but recover normally in a few weeks. It is important to limit sun exposure before and after treatment and with the advice of the clinic we can eliminate side-effects.

Am I able to continue with my activities after the session?
Yes immediately after the session you can resume normal life. As soon as it is finished you can use make-up to cover up the redness and keep it hidden.

Are safety precautions necessary?
In Clinica Foguet we make many treatments with laser, surgery and non-surgical techniques and we take all the necessary safety precautions that are required.

Are there any contra-indications with this treatment?
There are some contra-indications such as certain illnesses and certain drug treatment that will be evaluated by Clinica Foguet.
