It can be applied to all types of skin and all areas of the body. As with all treatments at the Clinica Foguet we make a medical evaluation of your type of skin and hair according to your personal characteristics and check all previous medical history so that we can estimate the result that you can expect to get with this treatment.

What must we know about hair growth?
It is important to know that hair growth depends on many factors sex, race, hormones, medication and body areas etc. Hair grows in 3 cycles. They are the growing stage, when the hair dies and the resting stage. All hair passes through all 3 cycles but not at the same time so this means that not all the hair will be in the growing period as some will be resting and some will be falling out.

The laser can only treat hair that is growing or falling out, the hair you see, it does not work on hair that is resting. These hairs will appear later and will need another treatment.

Also the time during this stage varies in different parts of the body, the moustache for instance. It is for that reason that the time we need to repeat the session also depends on the area that we are working on.

How do you remove the hair with this method?
The photo-depilation consists of the highly controlled application of the Intense Pulsed Light laser (IPL) over the skin that attracts and absorbs the pigment that is in the follicle. This light heats the pigment and for that reason it destroys the potential capacity of the follicle for re-growth. This action on the hair is totally selective and does not damage the skin only the hair follicle.

Can you treat any type of hair?
With respect to the hair colour, we can treat any hair that has a pigment such as black, red or blonde and we are able to treat them effectively. However, we are unable to treat white or very fine hair. Concerning hair texture and body areas, photo-depilation can be adapted and has many possibilities.

Are you able to apply it to all types of skin?
Yes it is a procedure that allows us to treat the hair on all skin types including those individuals with dark skin.

What happens in the treatment?
We make the sessions on skin that has not been waxed, shaved, reddened or sun-tanned. We apply a cold gel over the area to be treated.

How long does a session last?
Depending on the area or areas to be treated, but we can cover a large area in a few minutes.

How many sessions will it be necessary to have?
We have already talked about the characteristics of hair growth and so the number of sessions will depend on the area to be treated, the type of skin and the growth cycle of the hair.  According to these characteristics we make a schedule adapted to each individual case.

Is photo-depilation painful and what is felt during a treatment?
You may feel a little prick or bite with each pulse or emission of light but a local anaesthetic is not necessary as the majority of people tolerate this treatment well.

Are there any side-effects?
It is rare to have side-effects. Normally a little redness could appear or localised swelling in the treated area that quickly disappears. Occasionally the skin could darken or lighten after the treatment but recovers normally in a few weeks.  It is important not to have sun exposure before or after the treatment and with the advice of the clinic you can avoid complications.

Can I continue my activities after a session of depilation?
Yes immediately after the session you can return to normal life.

What results am I able to expect?
With photo-depilation the hair does not fall out but later after each session there is a permanent reduction in the number of hairs that will grow again. With time the sessions are less frequent as there is a lack of hair to be treated.

Are safety precautions necessary?
In the Clinica Foguet we make many treatments with laser, surgery and non-surgical techniques as with photo-depilation and we take all the necessary safety precautions that are required.

Are there contra-indications for this treatment?
There are contra-indications such as the presence of certain illnesses and certain drug treatment that will be evaluated by Clinica Foguet.
