ThermaCool TC® is a radio frequency device that allows for tightening of the skin without injury to the skin’s top layer (epidermis). This was developed as the result of extensive research by Thermage Inc (Hayward CA).
ThermaCool works by tightening skin in certain key areas that can be advantageous for cosmetic improvement. As an example the skin of the forehead can be treated and will lift the eyebrows and enhance the appearance of the eyes making them look more open, less tired and more alert. Previously this result could only be obtained with major surgery or, on a transitory level, with Botox®. Of course by using it on other areas of the face you can achieve similar results such as the flaccidity of the cheeks that can produce deep folds with aging. These can be treated and their appearance can be reduced with the use of this technique and currently other applications are being tested.
Delivered by a “one use” applicator, radio frequency energy heats the collagen deep in the lower levels of the skin you are made more comfortable as the top layers are protected by a cooling spray. The action of this heating causes immediate tightening in the deep structures of your skin and over a period of time new collagen grows to tighten your skin even further so producing a more youthful appearance.
FAQs
The information that we have put in this website is of a general nature and is not intended for the individual. You need to understand that any treatment will only be offered after a full and informed consultation with your specialist plastic surgeon. If you do not understand anything please contact Clinica Foguet.
Is this treatment painful?
Each time the machine is fired there is a sensation of heat in the area. To make you comfortable an anaesthetic cream is applied 1 hour before the procedure begins and makes the process quite easily tolerated.
The heat sensation lasts for just a fraction of a second and is immediately followed by a cooling spray which helps to keep you feeling at ease. The cooling effect comes from a cryogen spray that is delivered before, during and after each application of heat.
How long does the procedure take?
This will depend of the size of the area to be treated and may take from 2 to 20 minutes. You must also remember that you need to be in the clinic behind so that we can prepare the skin and use the anaesthetic and then, after the procedure is over, there will be a short resting period so that the specialist team can monitor your progress.
Do I need to prepare for this treatment?
No you may continue to use topical creams and oral medication up to the time of the procedure.
When can I return to normal activities?
You may return to normal life when you leave the clinic.
When can I return to sunbathing or using sun-beds?
There is no need to wait at all so you can return to these things immediately.
What can I expect after the treatment?
There may be a little redness in the area treated but this will very quickly fade over the next hour and no special care is necessary.
Are there complications with this procedure?
No complications are rare. There could be a little swelling or bruising but this is very uncommon.
Are safety precautions necessary?
In Clinica Foguet we make many treatments with laser, surgery and non-surgical procedures such as Thermage and we take all the necessary safety precautions that are required.
How safe is this treatment?
It is extremely safe. Although this is a relatively new procedure and a new technology there have been great efforts to make it as safe as possible and at Clinica Foguet we maintain this effort.
How many treatments will I need?
In general you will need only one treatment but there are times when further treatments may be necessary.
How long must I wait for another treatment if required?
This decision can be made approximately 1 month after the first treatment but as the benefits are progressive a further treatment may not take place for up to 3 months.
When will I see the results?
In some patients the results are noticed immediately but in general they will be seen progressively over the following 4 to 6 months. Since these effects are gradual the patient may not be fully aware of the extent of the changes. It is for this reason that photographic comparisons with before and after photos are made to demonstrate the changes that have taken place in each patient.
